|
The author presents twelve brief cases in which the patients could benefit from a short and one-time comment from the therapist. The patients were not under a formal psychotherapeutic process. Some patients were under pharmacotherapy, and the others were only one-time visitors who could not afford formal psychotherapy. The comments were made in the form of education, similes, suggestions and confrontations. In doing so, the author argues, it is desirable for therapists to think and observe in a psychoanalytic way in order to better help patients. The author suggests calling this form of treatment "focal psychotherapeutic education."
